La virgen de los sícaros

La virgen de los sícaros was a film based in Medellin , Columbia after the cocaine bust of the 1980s.  The heads of the cocaine dealing had hired assassins to keep their drug trade safe but once they had all been busted, the assassins were free to roam the streets.  The assassins were all very young but committed to their little street gangs they had formed since the drug trade ended.   People in Medellin were used to all the fighting.  Children would go up and look at the dead bodies like it was not a big deal.  There was no remorse or respect for human life.  There was major loss of life and it was a direct result from the drug trade.

“War in Columbia” the United States was providing arms to counter act the guerrillas, which in turn would counter act the drug trade.  The United States and the Peruvian government connected the drugs and guerrillas together.  The results of the counter guerillas enforcements showed very little affect on the actual drug trafficking.  Meanwhile in Columbia it was very dangerous for security forces to protect against guerillas.  There was a complete loss of human rights in the drug producing areas.  It was counter productive and eventually all of Columbia come under protection.  Eventually the US decided to ignore the human rights issues and pull the aid.

Evil Hour in Columbia examines the political confusing and turmoil.  For so long the drug tycoons had been running the country and since their bust there was a large struggle for power and without a strong central power different guerrilla groups and political leaders were struggling to gain power.  The United States had played a role in the struggle as well.  They were also looking for economical goals in Columbia.  It like a free for all and complete turmoil for the people.

La virgen de los sícaros depicted the complete chaos that was occurring in Columbia.  There was a lack of authority and respect of life.  People were on a killing rampage with no remorse.  The drug tacking boom and bust along with the United States picking and choosing who to give aid were all direct influences on the chaos occurring in Columbia.
